Flames Kyle Willis Enjoys Moment of A Lifetime Competing for the U.S. Virgin Island Soccer Association U17-MNT
BRANDON, FL (April 22, 2019)---West Florida Flames had another player in the national spotlight. Kyle Willis had the experience of a lifetime during the month of March. For him, it was a dream come true! Being able to represent your Nation at any competition is what all young athletes strive for.
In a moment of a lifetime, Kyle found himself in St. Croix, training as a member of the US Virgin Island’s U17 team. This all took place just in time for the CONCACAF U17 Championships down in Bradenton, Florida. This year’s competition is the largest CONCACAF U17 tournament ever.
The FIFA U17 Men’s World Cup qualifying competition was hosted at the IMG Academy campus. The USVI was in a group with St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Cayman Islands, Nicaragua and Grenada.
“We did not come away with the results we would have liked, but we fought hard and earned great experience. Considering we didn’t have much preparation, I believe we played well. I enjoyed staying on the IMG campus with the national team. My teammates were very supportive and welcoming. It was overall a great experience for me and I would gladly play for the USVI again. This also serves as a good source of motivation for my future endeavors,” said Kyle.
Kyle is currently competing with the Flames and coach Ashani Fairclough U19 Boys at our Brandon Campus.
