West Florida Flames U11 Boys win at the Lakeland FC Junior Invitational

Coach Jose Holguin’s West Florida Flames U11B Select won the Lakeland FC Junior Invitational after a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Lakeland FC White on Sunday, March 6th at Lake Parker Park.  A hard fought, physically played game was tied at three by Lakeland late in regulation and, after Lakeland quickly took the lead in the first overtime period, the Flames were down to one last corner kick.  A well placed ball by Braxton Maenza was beautifully struck into the back of the net by Tristan Mitchum forcing the game to PK’s.  Lakeland took an early lead from the spot but missed two of their last three as goalkeeper Jonah Stough provided a huge presence in the net.  Midfielder Josh Smith calmly stepped up and placed the 5th PK into the back of the net, securing victory for his team.  Earlier in the tournament, the Flames rolled through group play, defeating Winter Haven YSA, Lakeland FC Black, and Auburndale SC by a combined 15-5.
